P.K. Yonge hosts “Tyler Talk” about mental health awareness among student athletes

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - On Thursday morning at P.K. Yonge Developmental School, a reminder in the sports world that mental health is not discussed enough. Thanks to the nonprofit, Florida Rising Stars. An audience of students, teachers, and athletic coaches sat down for a “Tyler Talk.”

Mark and Kym Hilinski go across the country and talk to high schools, colleges about mental health awareness. The Hilinski family is bringing hope after they lost their son, Tyler to suicide. Tyler was a quarterback for Washington State University, but took his own life back in 2018.

The main focus of their message starts by telling a tearful story from who knew Tyler the most, Mom and Dad.

Florida legends like Gator football coach Steve Spurrier and Jeff Cardozo were in attendance during the two-hour presentation.
