Hilinski’s Hope: Mental Health Support Series
Hilinski’s Hope is working with Alabama high schools to bring resources to our country’s adolescents, who are at a high and growing risk of poor mental health and suicide.
This program is brought to you at zero cost in partnership with the Alabama Legislature.
In 2022, we partnered with the University of North Carolina Greensboro to develop our research-based online mental health support series: Reducing Mental Health Stigma for Student-School Connectedness.
This interactive course is designed for all 9th to 12th grade students, and engages them in six, 10 to 20-minute sessions on mental health literacy, help-seeking, and bystander intervention skills. Topics include,
1. Addressing Stigma: Exploring how our attitudes about mental health affect behavior.
2. The Mental Health Spectrum: A simple and accurate way of thinking about how “we all have mental health”.
3. Emotions are Information: Our feelings are connected to our thoughts, actions, and ultimately, our mental health.
4. The Power of Our Thoughts: Giving students language for reflecting on their thoughts and their own mental health.
5. Help Seeking: Providing students with an accurate picture of what to expect from mental health counseling.
6. Being an Upstander: Gain and practice skills for supporting others that may be struggling.
We are committed to making the roll out of our mental health support series as simple as possible for you and your community.
