Hilinski’s Hope’s Online Mental Health Course

A course in six lessons, brought to you in partnership with the Center for Athlete Well-Being.

This course was designed to help reduce the stigma of seeking help for mental health concerns, and provides a new way of thinking about mental health. Students will learn to break down myths about mental health treatment, build confidence in seeking treatment regardless of one’s current mental health, and teach them to advocate for others.

Define stigma and examine how you perceive mental health stigma in your own life.

Examine reasons for stigma and consider how the mental health spectrum can help us frame how we think about mental health.

Describe how mental health is reflected in our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

Introduce key skills related to understanding and talking about your own mental health.

Demystify what happens in counseling and therapy, and address potential concerns about seeking help for mental health.

Practice skills for supporting and communicating with a friend or teammate who may be struggling with their mental health.
